Inspiration
The inspiration behind Bumbling Bee began when the mother/daughter duo became vegans. Their first outlet was in Virginia Beach at a food truck.
As the popularity of the vegan junk food bar grew, Cassandra decided to open a brick and mortar restaurant in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to the restaurant, they also owned two food trucks. They named them Daisy and Dixie. The trucks were available for events.
This was a full fledged family effort. Cassandra Ayala spent her entire life savings on the new restaurants. Her Her three daughters; Olivia, Alexandria and India also went into the family venture, quitting their jobs to work full time on The Bumbling Bee.
Shark Tank Audition
One day at the end of 2019, Cassandra decided to fill out a form online for a chance to appear on ABC’s “Shark Tank.”
The news finally came and Cassandra Ayala was in the Charlotte airport when she got the call, according to Pilotonline.com.
Since their episode was filmed during the COVID pandemic, the traditional measures weren’t taken. This time a film crew was not sent to their restaurant locations to shoot footage. The show was taking an abundance of precautions, with multiple rounds of testing and quarantining.
