What is Tom and Chee?

Tom and Chee sells everyone’s favorite sandwiches – grilled cheese!  They came into the tank to pitch their grilled cheese stores.  The two founders wanted to take it back to the basics, offering the delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.  

Did They Strike a Deal?

Yes, they did strike a deal on Shark Tank. Tom and Chee made the deal with Barbara Corcoran and Mark Cuban. $300k each for 15%.

When they went on Shark Tank, they were pitching their grilled cheese shops. Trew Quackenbush loved cooking and his partner Corey Ward had the business know-how in his blood.  His parents owned ice cream shops.  They had 5 shops and were looking to expand.

They asked for $600,000 for 10%.

Who are Trew Quackenbush and Corey Ward?

Trew Quackenbush was always in the food industry.  According to his LinkedIn profile, he is no longer the co-founder or president of Tom and Chee.  He is currently working as an instructor at a high school in Ohio.

Corey Ward was an art director for nearly 10 years before becoming the co-founder of Tom & Chee along with Trew Quackenbush.  He attended the Art Institute of Cincinnati in 2004.

Are They Still in Business?

Yes, they are still in business.

The deal with Mark and Barbara went through and the company grew to having 23 open locations.  They decided to change the structure of the business to allow more room for growth, including “melts” on the menu instead of just grilled cheese sandwiches.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and put a halt on their plans.  By summer 2022, it appears that they are offering their new structure in franchises like they wanted to in 2020.  Corey Ward is still with the business.
